Digital Devices in the Classroom

Today's children and young people will face a changed and complex career landscape that will require real-time thinking and as mentioned creativity hence I am a proponent for implementing e-books and other digital devices that means more information than ever before in the hands and minds of youth. Maybe more active political participation. Yes with a caveat that such digital devices can be harmful to a young developing brain yet beneficial to a high school or college age student who must juggle reading assignments with career aspirations.

I like the idea of e-Readers ... If history tell us anything, it tells us that in business one must be flexable and open to integrating the next big thing into product or service. I personally do not believe that virtual texts will make books obsolete. More like one type of reading will stimulate interest in the other, that things will become situation dependant. Buying books require a collector's attitude, that is something that is developed with interest, an interest that is developed with contact, which is more likely to be had on a hand-held electronic device ... say a cell phone. Books are subject to censure, this hasn't been true yet for e-books or "Vooks".

I'm a proponent from old school; I believe that books (hard copy) is still the way to go. Although technology is great, and e-books will save trees and the earth; we seemed to have gotten away from the law of first beginnings and pretty soon the new generation will forget, lose site of hard copy edition, and gravitate only to e-books.

I believe that technology today is so great! All the devices that we have available today compared to twenty years ago is just remarkable. I like the kindles as well as the Ipads. The reason I do like the kindle because I do like to read and the thought of uploading my books of interest without the clutter of books on the shelf trying to remember where i left off is just great.

Digital Devices in the class could be good and also bad. I feel that they can definitely assist college students as well as younger students. However they can also become a major distraction in the class. I've notice how several students pay more attention to their digital devices in the class instead of the professor. And sometimes distract the class because others are now gathered to view what's being displayed. I think Digital Devices should be allowed in the classrooms with the approval of the professor.

Good answer and it's up to the instructor to set the policy on the use of digital devices in the classroom.

New technology is great and we should keep up because we would be left behind and not know what is going on. Especially in the job market. In order to get these new jobs we have to keep up with technology. Also this is very helpful and convenient for students.
