I have a sample video file from a computer applications class I taught at the Art Institute of California. In the video the students are presenting their final projects for their peers and myself. The purpose of the final project is to build up presentation and public speaking skills. The students created their own projects on technology topics.

 

        

Recent story in the NY Times suggests that laptops and/or technology might not be the cure all for the ills in our public education system.
The idea behind the laptops was to empower students with technology and provide students with the tools to compete in a competitive world. The students might be using the laptops for other means such as playing video games yet that action does prove they are learning.
Today's teachers are woefully under trained and ill prepared to teach today's students who are constantly on and need immediate stimulation. I have always used technology to enhance the classroom experience not return the classroom to a pencil and paper world that only does a disservice to our students.

        

    My approach to learning is to involve learners in real-world projects. I implement instructional strategies that will build up skills that can be immediately applied in the workplace environment. I like to follow Paulo Freire
as my source for training and teaching. The learner of today is one who should be involved and a participant in the learning process and the use of technology allows the learner to become a teacher of others in the classroom.
